Famous for being the first flower of spring, snowflakes often flower in Europe when there is still snow on the ground. Very easy to grow, prefers partial shade under trees and will adapt to all soil types quickly. Ideal under deciduous or evergreen trees in a natural woodland planting.
Sourced from a local Waitakere Farm, these are very large tough bulbs that will have pups in the next one to two seasons.
Leucojum are sometimes confused with Galanthus. Leucojum are more tolerant of heat, sunlight and varied soil types.
Plant in late summer to autumn for Spring flowers. Plant 5cm below the soil surface. Water deeply when planting then walk away. No further work required.
Here in Auckland snowflakes flower in late August to early September. In cooler regions flowering may be later.
The species has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
