Native to Brazil, this evergreen plant forms large clumps with 1.5m long lance like leaves that resemble flax. A very architectural plant with flower in mid summer with bright blue/white blooms on 1.5m-2m stems that slowly arch to the soil and then root upon reaching soil, hence the common name, walking iris.
Prefers afternoon shade and some frost protection but will tolerate full sun. Ideal under houses eaves in sheltered spots or under established trees. Very hardy and tough once established. Water regularly during the first year. Benefits from aged bark mulch to retain soil moisture and build mycelium..
