A prolific flower producer that loves full sun and good drainage, this California native thrives in bone dry hills and sandy coastal soils. If growing in heaver soils be sure to mound up and add plenty of pumice. Do not water. Do not fertilize. Loves heat. No known pest or disease issues due to an abundance of insect defense compounds and sticky leaves. Fast grower: 70cm high and  70cm wide after nine months. Prune to shape and deadhead once a month for continuous flowers. Flowers nine months of the year in full sun and a warm dry climate. Can be grown in 10L pots with a free draining potting mix.

This plant was formerly classified as Mimulus aurantiacus. Common Name remains the same: Bush monkey flower. I prefer to call this plant Fred Thorley and therefore acknowledge the history of this cultivar coming to New Zealand via passionate old school career horticulturists.
